Middle School

Middle School

A primary focus of the middle school program is on the acquisition and application of needed skills to pave the way for future success. Middle school provides a transition from our elementary curriculum within a self-contained classroom to the departmentalized organization of the high school. Students of the same level who follow the same schedule often have contact with several teachers throughout the academic day. In addition, every student is given numerous opportunities to practice making choices and reflect on the outcome(s).
In accordance with the schools’ mission, individualized programming is offered to accommodate the needs of a very diverse student body. The interdisciplinary primary program is experiential in nature and provides flexibility to honor cultural diversity and individual differences.

A core program of language arts, mathematics, social and natural sciences, foreign languages, art, computer technology, and physical education is provided. Eighth grade students have an opportunity to engage in honors classes. Several activity periods every week allow for students to become involved with a variety of special interest groups and activities including, but not limited to: student council and dance. Middle school sports teams compete against other teams within their community. In addition, they participate in various local academic competitions such as Spelling Bee, art competitions, and Science Fair. The school year activities culminate in class field trips to selected destinations and locales.
